FleetCrew has further expanded its operational locations from five to eight, opening branches in Townsville, Canberra, and Dubbo, marking a major milestone for the Queensland-founded company.
FleetCrew offers the mining, civil, renewable energy and other industries flexible rental arrangements with high-level customer service, providing a fleet of customisable mine spec vehicles.
The company was founded 15 years ago by Ben Harris and Mary-Ann Strelow, who saw a market gap for high-quality 4WD and specialist light vehicles, focusing on maintenance and customisation.
Beginning with just five vehicles in a Brisbane workshop, the company has grown into one of Australia’s largest specialist 4WD hire providers, supporting projects throughout eastern Australia.
With industry sustainability considerations at the forefront of customers’ minds, providing the newest and lowest emission models of vehicles is key to FleetCrew’s business looking ahead.
Co-Founder Ben Harris noted that customers working in remote locations required vehicles to have a certain level of robustness, so it was a matter of balancing that with lower environmental impacts.
Harris said: “We provide vehicles for a very diverse range of industries – over the last couple of years, a very large percentage of our hires have been for renewable projects like solar, wind, and hydro.
“Those could be large-scale projects or power for mining sites looking to reduce their own emissions.”
With its new branches, FleetCrew is working alongside companies and contractors involved in projects such as the CopperString electricity upgrade between Mount Isa and Townsville, plus green energy projects in the North Queensland renewable energy zone (REZ), the Central West Orana REZ at Dubbo, Snowy 2.0 near Canberra, and opportunities for the Hume Link electrical upgrade.
FleetCrew’s branch managers are locals who understand the regional challenges and opportunities faced by their clients, allowing them to benefit from quicker dispatches, access to more fleet and local decision makers, and local workshops that service, maintain, and detail the vehicles.
Mary-Ann Strelow, Co-founder at FleetCrew, said that while the company’s main business strategy was in the vehicles it provided, it was the crew behind the fleet that saw crucial value creation for the business.
She said: “We set out to provide a new level of expertise in mine spec light vehicle hire, where our people took the time to understand the customer’s needs and site requirements.
“People first is the way we expand our business, so we’re keeping control of our quality and our service offering.”
As a mechanical workshop-centric business, the company has a full range of customisable Toyota vehicles available for hire, with mine site-ready fit-outs including VHF radio, in-vehicle monitoring systems, gross vehicle mass upgrades, heavy-duty steel trays, and rollover protection systems.
Hire periods range from one day to three years, with delivery options available, and are supported by FleetCrew’s maintenance program.
Strelow added that FleetCrew was not just a hire company, but a business partner.
She said: “We understand site requirements and regulations and modify our vehicles accordingly, making it easy for the people who hire.
“Our medium to long-term hire arrangements have service and maintenance factored in, so clients aren’t just getting a vehicle, they are getting the support that goes along with it.”
